Military Aviation

Airplanes became a military force towards the end of WWI. At the outset of WWII most air forces still displayed biplanes in the first lines and only around 1942 the first single plane fighters entered the scene. During WWII some of the most iconic designs entered into service, that are portrayed here, like the immortal Spitfire and Mustang or Corsair and Hurricane. At the end of WWII the first jets pushed the perfomance boundaries close to the speed of sound and in a matter of 25 years, military planes were able to dispatch their weapons flying at Mach 2 or flying supersonic at ground level.
